Pastor Tim Smith Teaching At Advance The Church – October 7th

TimSmith_ReSoundeventWe are very pleased to announce that Pastor Tim Smith from Mars Hill Church in Seattle, WA will be joining us at the FREE October 7th Advance The Church event for some additional sessions on leading worship.
The teaching of Pastor Tim Smith provided guidance to what many of us feel about the role of music in worship. His passion for excellence, contextualization of music in the local church, and above all the worship of God in Spirit and Truth is unparalleled among anyone else I’ve met. For the past few years, his teaching about missional worship has influenced not only Mars Hill Church, but indirectly many other churches through the leaders tuning in to sermons. In the years to come, his leadership in Acts 29 and through Re:Sound, the musical end of the Resurgence, will be valuable in growing congregations in knowledge and worship of God. Pastor Tim is a gifted speaker and leader, and we’re honored he’s joining us.

Schedule for the October 7th Advance The Church event:

8:30 – Registration

9:00 – Session 1: Worship, Culture and the Glory of God
Before we can discuss the nuts and bolts of bands, music, style and leadership we must first clarify who we worship and why.  Before we can be “worship leaders” we must first be worshippers consumed with the glory of God seen in the face of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Pastor Tim will dig into questions like what is worship, how should we be moved by the glory of God and how should this change the way we view the world around us?

10:00 – Session 2: The Marks of Missional Corporate Worship
What is the mindset of a missionary?  How should this affect our task of leading others to glorify God though music?  Is corporate worship primarily for believers or those who are not there yet?  What defines “Christian music”?  The selection of music style, songs, leadership and aesthetic do as much or more than anything else we do in gathered worship to place us in a specific cultural world.  Pastor Tim will address all these questions and more as we discern what it means to live on mission with Jesus.  This session will be followed by an extended Q&A forum.

12:00 – Lunch

12:30 – Corporate Worship

1:00 – Afternoon sessions w/ Jeff Vanderstelt & JD Greear begin
