Re:Sound Reasons To Attend Re:Sound

The Re:Sound event that will be accompanying the Advance 09 conference is an amazing opportunity to both worship God and grow in our knowledge of worship. For this reason, over the next week at worship.vintage21.com we’ll look at several sound reasons for attending Re:Sound and inviting your friends.

Re:Sound Reason #1: Teaching by Pastor Tim Smith

When asked to serve as worship pastor of @V21Church, I gladly accepted, but soon grew concerned that it was not a good fit. I’ve never been up-to-date on the latest worship music or trends, and people soon began grumbling about the sound of the music and choice of songs. My goal was to avoid simply transplanting what church “should be”, but instead bring the authenticity of local and good music into the church. Local because that’s the scene I was in, and good because well, it always seemed stupid that people would pay good money to hear excellent original bands but then settle for Marty Culp and Bobbi Mohan-Culp on Sundays. Let us sing praise to God, but the music shouldn’t be something we tolerate.

The teaching of Pastor Tim Smith provided guidance to what many of us feel about the role of music in worship. His passion for excellence, contextualization of music in the local church, and above all the worship of God in Spirit and Truth is unparalleled among anyone else I’ve met. For the past few years, his teaching about missional worship has influenced not only Mars Hill Church, but indirectly many other churches through the leaders tuning in to sermons. In the years to come, his leadership in Acts 29 and through Re:Sound, the musical end of the Resurgence, will be valuable in growing congregations in knowledge and worship of God. Pastor Tim is a gifted speaker and leader, and we’re honored he’s joining us.
