Band Auditions, Day One recap

Today I can’t help but feel thankful. Brandon, Thad, Josh and Matt all came out last night to audition new people, and stayed for hours. They were gracious towards each person trying out and positive the whole time. I’m reminded how stupid and prideful it is to rely on one’s own strength- I’d be a foolish man and the church would be in a lesser place if we had not moved towards the band model. This past Sunday was also a reminder of this as Mike and Josh led with their band. It was a joy for me to sit in the congregation and worship God, and also to hear and feel my brothers and sisters in Christ around me lifting their voices in praise.

The fact that people would step up, work on the songs, and come out for an audition is a humbling thing to me. It can be such an awkward process, so we seek to be as humble, relaxed and straightforward as possible. It always charges me up when we have auditions and people come prepared, and it’s clear that they are called and ready to serve in this area. Last night showed some promise, and I’m already charged for next week’s audition. I have a deep love and loyalty to the musicians who serve at Vintage21 Church, and my hope is that we’ll continue to grow the ministry, allowing people the chance to serve in a way that doesn’t cause burnout, and that also brings a greater representation of Jesus Christ to the church.

Beautiful things on the horizon, don’t sleep through it!
