Thad will write a Sunday Review for January 4th, but in the meantime, here’s an update on @V21Church Music.
Yesterday we began our new band model. @ThadCockrell’s band led worship at the Raleigh campus, and in two weeks will play in Durham. Next week the band I lead will play in Raleigh, two weeks after which we’ll lead in Durham, and so on. To implement this model has taken a ton of prayer, meetings, planning and prayer, and to be honest, it feels amazing to get it started. God has been faithful in bringing vision and people, and I believe this will be a healthy move for the congregation and musicians, and ultimately lead to greater glory for God.
Yesterday was a beautiful beginning to this model, and Thad’s band has great potential. I’m glad to be a part of it, because not only do I get to help lead the singing, but Thad is playing rhythm guitar, so I get to share electric duties with Chris Boyette. He’s a talented, tasteful player- I think some of the other guitarists have man-crushes on his playing, but you didn’t hear that from me. Thad has an amazing songwriting and arranging ability, and the other musicians in the band are excellent, so it was a lot of fun to play these songs, and even more we believe they helped people worship God. The only downside of the day was that I played tambourine and bells at the same time on a few songs, and so my leg today looks like I got into a fight with Pastor Will (our resident pastor/hap ki do master).
Stay tuned this week for Thad’s Sunday Review, a “Behind The Music” segment, and more! Happy New Year!
