At the risk of sounding cliche…I love to worship, and more specifically to worship with music. I believe that great worship results in the movement of ourselves towards something great. Like David who stripped down and danced the streets, I want to be a part of creating something that causes us to throw caution to the wind, chase after God and lose ourselves in His greatness if just for a moment. My prayer is that through musical worship and as a band we would lead in the chase for these “great” moments that result in laughter, weeping, reflection but most importantly a glimpse of our great Savior.
As far as the style of worship I would like to achieve, two words that come to mind are “epic” and “great.” Not great in the sense of just quality, but great in the sense of the moments. The musical style would combine that of a Coldplay “Lost” or “Fix You” along with Explosions in the Sky. Lyrically, aim towards Charlie Hall and Robbie Seay. I love dynamics and songs that take you on a ride or journey. Songs that build up and tear down. Some albums that would be a good reference point would be Robbie Seay’s “Give Yourself Away” Phil Wickham’s “Cannons” and any of the albums of the above mentioned bands, Coldplay and Explosions in the Sky.
Instruments
Drums – Dynamic with driving beats.
Bass – (see above)
Keys – Atmospheric is the best word I can come up with
Electric Guitar- Same as keys but with a simple catchiness. Fill the room with delay and reverb!
Backing Vocals – Usually one female vocalist with a smooth tone
Rhythm- Mainly an electric guitar keeping with the theme of atmospheric and occasionally some acoustic guitar.
Here is a link to Charlie Hall’s “Mystery” live. It is not the whole song but still good.
Thanks for reading and listening and if you have any concerns or suggestions do not hesitate to let me know. I would love to hear from you.
